Young Alumnus of the Year

This award recognizes professional achievement and/or distinguished service to Abilene Christian University. To be eligible, a recipient must not be over 40 years of age at the time of selection. Make a nomination.

The 2017 Young Alumnus of the Year is Chelsea (Thornton ’01) Buchholtz, of Austin, Texas.

Since August 2012, Buchholtz has worked in the recently reformed Texas Juvenile Justice Department, moving from deputy general counsel to general counsel to chief of staff, with a focus on ensuring the department is trustworthy and creating a culture of healing and positivity among its workforce. She began her career as a briefing attorney in the Texas Court of Appeals, Fourth District, in San Antonio, Texas. She then moved to the state capitol and served as assistant general counsel for four years under Governor Rick Perry, followed by almost two years as one of his policy advisors.
